Organ Recital in Kazan

On Sunday, 24th October I had the privilege to play an organ recital in Kazan, the capital and largest city of the Republic of Tatarstan in Russia, and the fifth-largest city in Russia.

The concert took place at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Catherine, Kazan.

On the programme were works by various German composers.

Thousand-year-old Kazan has a busy cultural life. The second largest Grand Concert Hall in Russia, an opera, drama and a puppet theatres, a philharmonic hall, 4 state orchestras, and the song and dance ensemble of Republic Tatarstan. There are 7 higher and secondary music and cultural institutions; over 50 music and art schools. Aside from classical art, the city facilitates the development of contemporary art trends as well. Such cultural events as the Feodor Chaliapin International Opera Festival, Rudolph Nureyev International Ballet Festival, White Lilac International Festival named after Sergey Rachmaninov, International Festival of Muslim Cinema and many others have already become annual for Kazan.
